Preparations for homecoming

Student Council is a group of students who plan and produce various events including homecoming and hall decorating for DHS/MHS prom.

[The goal is] “Supporting the existing efforts of the various clubs and interests at DHS, increasing student involvement and inclusion,” said Spanish teacher Erica Meyer.

Preparation for homecoming is planned by sophomores which includes coming up with a theme for the dance and coordinating decorations for the theme picked.

“As we are becoming incoming sophomores, we come up with a couple different ideas, “ sophomore Kim Douglas said. “We tell the rest of the other classes the ideas and we all vote on what ideas they like the best.”

Destinations/road trip was picked for the theme of this year’s dance. The different classes in student council then choose a city to represent their grade level. Freshman chose the city of Dallas, Texas, sophomores selected Orlando, Florida, juniors picked New York, New York and seniors picked the city of Honolulu, Hawaii.

“We thought it would be a cool idea to do different cities and dress up as different cities, it would be cool for the hall decorating,” Douglas said.

Senior Anna Jensen, president of Student Council, explains to freshman their role in the homecoming parade.

Hallway decorating is set for Oct. 20       and the dance is on Oct. 5 from 7-11pm.
