Cross country competes at states

The varsity cross country team competed at the MHSAA Division I State Finals this past weekend at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. Senior Zach Hoffman and sophomore Emily Wall were the two DHS athletes to qualify and compete at the Nov. 1 race. Even though only two members qualified, many other members accompanied them on their trip to support their teammates.

“I went 16:15.4 and got 61st [out of 256], which was fourteen places better than I was supposed to get,” Hoffman said. “Considering the weather and the course, I’m happy with how it went.”

Wall finished the race with a time of 19:40.2 and placed 100th out of 244 girls. The race concluded the end of the team’s season.

“I’m sad cross country is over, but I’m glad I’m done running for now,” Hoffman said. “I’m sure Emily will continue to run and she’ll do well.”
