Carrying on Thanksgiving Traditions

As the winter season quickly approaches, so does the holiday season. There are many people planning to gather with their families to celebrate Thanksgiving this year.

“I’m going to my grandparents’ house in Marlette, Michigan,” sophomore Kassie Strahl said. “It’s a family tradition; we all gather there on Thanksgiving to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.”

While some people travel great lengths to see their loved ones, Strahl has the privilege of having family close by, in Michigan.

“It takes about two hours to drive there and we usually stay for the weekend through Sunday,” Strahl said.

Although Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade takes place in New York City, there is no reason that people can’t enjoy it even from miles away.

“We’re all crowded in their small living room just trying to see the TV because there’s at least 20 of us when the whole family gets together including my parents, my aunt, my cousins, my grandparents and my cousins’ extended family,” Strahl said.

Getting together with family is what makes Thanksgiving so special.
