Basketball: Boys fall, girls prevail against Arthur Hill

Boys fall 43-63 to Saginaw Arthur Hill High School

The DHS boys varsity basketball team dropped its second consecutive game last night, dropping to 10-7 on the season after a 43-63 loss to the Lumberjacks of Saginaw Arthur Hill. DHS only trailed by two points in the fourth quarter, but fell apart late and finished the game with a 20 point loss. Junior Mike Robb led Dow with 15 points and 10 boards and senior Campbell Bortel added 10. Leading the Lumberjacks was senior Eric Davis with 24 points and Brian Bowen added 19. Dow hosts Mt. Pleasant this Friday.

“It was a tough game against a really good team,” Robb said. “Positives can be taken away because we did play close for most of the game but we aren’t there yet.”

Girls blowout Arthur Hill, 76-35

Sophomore Ellie Taylor had 12 points, four steals and four assists to lead the DHS girls to another win with a 76-35 victory over Saginaw Arthur Hill. Sophomore Asjia Blanton added 13 points and seven rebounds while senior Jenna Queary added 11 points. Sophomore Kaylee Wasco and junior Alexie Flaminio both had 10 points. The team dominated from the start and never looked back, leading 25-13 after one quarter. After an even second quarter, DHS outscored the Lumberjacks 45-16 in the second half to seal the win. The team is now 15-2 on the season.

“We played really well,” sophomore Nadia Atton said. “We needed to play well and not have a letdown after the Midland game, and I think we accomplished that.”
