With a season that has already gone so well, the DHS varsity volleyball team has high hopes for the rest of the 2014 season. They have played plenty of good competition with successful tournament results and have a lot of confidence for the upcoming competitions.
“We’re looking really good in practice,” junior Karina Moe said.
On top of the Mt. Pleasant game, which was Sept. 16, and supposedly the biggest game of the year, the girls also have the DHS vs. MHS game. After defeating Mt. Pleasant 3-0, the volleyball team improves their overall record to 14-3 and are undefeated in the SVL Conference.
“We’ve been working on a lot of tip coverage and hitting spots,” Moe said. “We usually take it one game at a time. There are some things that the team is trying to work on as well.”
There are also things the team is working on besides physical practice. There are mental aspects of being a team that some of the seniors thought needed addressing.
“We need to work on keeping our heads up when we make a mistake,” senior Madi Kuch said. “Technically make sure we are doing better on serve receive.”
The girls are confident they can make it to districts and the regional tournament. The Chargers seem to have a game plan for their toughest competition and are looking to come through victorious.
The volleyball team’s next event is the Linden Invitational on Sept. 23.
