The varsity soccer team improved its already stellar record to 12-4-3 following a win over Saginaw Heritage, 2-0 on Oct. 15 in the district tournament opener. Junior Ricky Knoff played excellent in goal, shutting out the Hawks. The match was scoreless in the first half with both teams playing impressive defensively. The second half was dominated by the Chargers, with goals being scored by seniors Keenan Hammer and Eric Podhorez, with Knoff again holding the Hawks to nothing offensively.
“There was a high level of excitement throughout the game especially when the goals were scored,” sophomore Brandon Derstine said.
The team now takes on Midland High Wednesday, in the next round of districts. DHS defeated the Chemics in their only meeting throughout the regular season.
“I’m looking forward to again proving we are the better team,” Derstine said.
