On Dec. 14, 2019, the DHS debate team of senior Tayce Shamamian and junior Faith Tabler won the state title in Varsity debate. For the first time, Tabler placed fifth for best overall speaker on the varsity division. In the novice round, the team of freshmen Anthoney Tang and Corrine Coi placed second overall, while Coi won the best overall speaker in the novice division.
This win was in large part to the talents and teamwork of Tabler and Shamamian.
“I think this year we definitely worked really hard and Tayce and I were awesome, really good partners,” Tabler said. “We got along really well and we really understood each other’s arguments.”
Tang and Coi also were also successful making it to states and got second for the novice division.
“I think I did pretty well,” Tang said. “I’m sorry that I could have done a bit better. I’m pretty certain that I didn’t do as well as Corrine, who made the first speaker at states.”
