SchoolAI is the district’s new AI tool to assist students and teachers with everyday tasks and work in classes. The program has gone from being a pilot used in classes in the spring to accessible to the full student body in all classes. SchoolAI is now accessible to all students from middle school to high school, and it has many uses for students and teachers now that it’s fully unleashed.

“It can do worksheet generation, it can be a translator, the teacher’s creativity is kind of the limit of where it can go, how it can be used,” Engineering teacher Corey Spurling said. 

Teachers have been able to get projects that would usually take hours done in only a couple of minutes. For students there are other ways it can be used.

“I’ve set up an AI where students can go ask questions instead of waiting the whole class period for me to get around to it,” Spurling said.

Spurling has already noticed an improvement in students’ work after implementing SchoolAI.

“I’m seeing an increase in literacy we’re getting more of an in-depth response, like a deep level of thinking, versus just a surface-level response that would be typically so,” Spurling said.

The reason why School AI was chosen over other AI platforms or tools is because of the safety features that School AI has that others don’t.

“It’s a closed system, which means anything put into it cannot be used to train other AIs.” Spurling said. “None of your data is being used to train anything else.”
