DECA heading for states once more

After successfully performing on the district level, on Friday, March 10 the DHS DECA club is attending the State Career Development Conference in downtown Detroit to compete on the state level.

“I think we’re going to have another good year,” senior and DECA member Varun Shanker said. “The difference this year is, the club is a lot younger than in previous years were a lot of our members have been upperclassmen, especially seniors excited for their last year. This year we have a new type of energy in the club as a lot of our members are going for the first time.”

With the multiple choice component of the score already taken online, the team members will compete in two different case studies where they get graded by judges specific for the industry the event takes place in.

“I am really excited because I heard a lot of stories about it before and it seems like a lot of fun with all the different activities you can do,” sophomore and DECA member Ainsley Lacey said.

In last year’s state conference eight DHS DECA members qualified for the international competition and also had one member take number one in the world.

“Last year was historically one of our best years ever and we’re kind of hoping to repeat that same performance or perhaps even improve on it,” Shanker said.
