Both the DHS Boy’s and Girl’s track teams came in first place in the quad meet against Bay City Central, Saginaw Arthur Hill and Flint Southwestern. The boys team had a total of 105 points with Flint Southwestern in second with 60 points. The girls team had a total of 99 points with Bay City Central coming in second with 82 points. Combined the two teams won a total of 16 events and many individual athletes achieved personal records.
The boys had multiple first place finishes including Ben DeRuyter in 100 M and 200 M dashes and Will Adams in the 1600 M and 3200 M. The 4 x 100 relay team of Jeremy Contardi, Johnny Wilson, Jared Mohammed and Ben DeRuyter won with a time of 44.54 seconds, which is the best time by a Dow High team in 10 years.
“We all ran extremely hard in that race and it felt awesome to get a time that no one else has gotten the past ten years,” Contardi said.
In field events, Ryan Merry won the Discus, and Logan Daniels won the high jump. Jeremy Contardi, Jacob Johnson, Sean Clark, Chris Kerber, Luke Lowery, and Justin Cook all contributed to the win with second and third place finishes.
The girls also had multiple first place finishes including Emily wall in 400 M, Maija Rettelle in the 1600 M, and Heleyna Tucker in the 800 M. Emily Wall also tied for first place with Ana Tucker in the 3200 M. Amanda Kline won the High Jump, Long Jump, and the 100 M hurdles.
The track team’s next meet is Friday, May 5th at the Bay City Western Invitational.
