Last evening, the Midland Center for the Arts welcomed Straight No Chaser, a widely renowned a-cappella group. The group consists of 10 men who started singing together while they were attending Indiana University in 1996.
During the performance, the group dazzled the audience while performing a wide array of songs. The group sung a collection ranging from holiday classics to contemporary pop songs. They also surprised the audience with some of their own creations, including a rendition of several modified Broadway musicals and a performance of their original new song, “Text Me Merry Christmas.”
“I actually really enjoyed the concert,” said senior Jimmy Kennan, who attended the concert. “They were surprisingly funny, which was something I was not expecting from an a-cappella group.”
The group has performed at the MCFTA previously, and the Center hopes to have them back in town in the near future. The MCFTA will continue the holiday spirit by having holiday themed performances from the Symphony Orchestra and several choirs. Straight No Chaser’s work can be found on any common music site, such as Sound Cloud or Spotify, and the group will next be performing this coming Friday at the Detroit Mason’s Club.
