Many people look for a fun place to escape to on the weekends or during the summer to get away from their typical life. Sophomore Sophie Roeder and her brother senior Ben Roeder have a cabin located in Thompsonville at Crystal Mountain.

“It’s an hour and 45 minutes away and we go up about once a month,” Sophie said. “The cabin’s proximal location makes it easy to pick up and leave for a quick overnight stay.”

Ben spent most of his summer living at his cabin while working at a nearby golf course.

“It’s my favorite place in the world,” Ben said.

The cabin is in a beautiful part of Michigan which makes finding peaceful places easy, but it is also home to both winter and summer activities.

“In the winter we go skiing, snowboarding and sledding and in the summer we go to the pool and nearby beaches,” Sophie said.

The Roeders’ cabin also serves as a gathering place for their family and is especially convenient when it comes to graduation parties.

“My older sister, Sydney, had her graduation party there in 2012 and Ben and I both plan on having our graduation parties at our cabin when the time comes,” Sophie said.
