Every year, Midland comes together to create a special event that brings excitement to children’s eyes and welcomes Santa to his house for the next season of joy and happiness. The Santa Parade is on Nov. 11 this year and will start at MHS around 10 a.m., and finish at the end of Main Street.

The DHS band has always been a large part of the parade by providing cheerful Christmas songs. Junior and clarinet player, Shannon Kilbride, is starting to get ready for marching downtown.

“Even though it’s cold, if you march with your friends and just get into the holiday spirit it’s fun and a great experience,” Kilbride said. “I look forward to it every year.”

Other students, the majority are freshmen, have never experienced the Santa Parade through the marching band. Freshman and trumpet player, Logan Elliot, is very excited for the parade. He has seen the parade every year, but this will be his first year in the marching band. While at Jefferson Middle School, Elliot marched the parade in a very different way.

“I was wearing a Huskie suit,” Elliot said. “Everyone else was really cold but it was really warm inside the suit. [It smelled] sweaty and gross.”

Overall, the Santa Parade is a fun experience that most band members and spectators including DHS students enjoy. To welcome Santa into his house and get into the holiday spirit this Christmas season, DHS students can watch the parade at 10 a.m., downtown, on Nov. 11.
