Grand Theft Auto V is a video game that was released on Sept. 18, 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game has been rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRP) as mature, which means the player must be at least 17-years-old to buy it or a parent or legal guardian will need to purchase it for them. The company Rockstar made 800 million dollars on day one of sales, which just goes to show how popular the game is. Students at DHS also have a good reason for why it’s so popular.
“Because of how fun it is and there is always something to do,” said junior Evan Snider.
The game has 69 story missions, but there are plenty of side missions to keep you busy and occupied. Also, once you have completed the game the player can go back and re-complete missions they want to play again or even change a decision they have made when you originally played the mission. Even when you have completed all of that you have 297 collectibles to collect, which would take many hours to complete. Most students don’t plan on getting the collectibles.
“Nope it’s a waste of time,” junior Austin Roberts said.
Snider doesn’t think getting collectibles is worth the time either.
“No, I don’t want to waste time on that,” Snider said.
Grand Theft Auto V is an open world game, which allows players to explore the city of Los Santos. There are three main characters the player can play as. Franklin is the first, he is from South Los Santos and is now an ex-street gangster. Then players get to play as Michael who is from the East coast who made a deal with FIB. Then the last one is Trevor, he is a sleazy, trailer park criminal and Michael’s best friend.
Students seem to favor the character Michael.
“His missions are the most entertaining and you get the most money with him,” Snider said.
Throughout gameplay, all three of the main characters meet and befriend each other. The goal for Michael is to get one last big score and retire. Franklin is just looking to make some cash so he can treat everyone he’s close to right. Then Trevor just wants to expand his business.
But during all of the groups shenanigans trying to make money through stealing and illegal trade they eventually get caught up with some dirty federal workers. All three of the men want to destroy all of the connections they have with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FIB), IAA and Merryweather. The FIB in the game is basically the same thing as actual United State’s FBI and the IAA, which is a rendition of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Merryweather is a private security company.
Eventually the FIB is putting pressure on Franklin to kill Trevor. At the same time another character named Devin approaches Franklin to eliminate Michael. If he does not comply he is being threatened with execution.
The player ultimately decides how the game ends.
