DHS Girls’ Tennis Team Clinches Win in Division 1 State Finals

DHS girls’ tennis team won the Division 1 state finals 33-30 Saturday, June 4th.  The Chargers had 6 flights making it to the finals and won 4 of those flights.

“Going into states I was really excited knowing that we had a really good shot at winning.  We were the team to watch out for so we had that extra pressure, but it also motivated us knowing we had to work as hard as we could to win,” sophomore Hadley Camp said.

Winning individually for DHS were Junior Caroline Szabo and Sophomore Sarah Ismail.  Winning doubles were the team of Afua Ofori-Darko and Kamryn Matthews and the team of Meghan Killmaster and Kelly Livingston.  The No. 3 doubles team of Mina Fabiano and Tatum Matthews along with the No. 4 team Maggie Schaller and Marie Marche both lost a tough battle to No. 1 seeded Northville in the finals.

After losing to Northville at States last year, DHS worked hard throughout the offseason and into the season to get a perfect set up in order to win.

“After winning states, I felt really happy knowing that all of our hard work had paid off,” Camp said. “The whole team did everything we could and more to take the title, and it felt great getting that redemption.  Being able to walk home with the first place trophy showed that all of our hard work paid off.”
