DHS’s varsity football team plays Bay City Western on Sept. 20. They will be playing away, in Bay City at 7:00 p.m.
“This should be a tough game for us,” coach Matthew Peterson said.
Both teams have won a game and lost two. However, defensive end Garrett Tolles is confident in his team’s abilities.
“We should be able to stop them,” Tolles said. “Just trying to limit them on the ground on defense.”
The team prepares for the game by exchanging tapes and analyzing their opponent’s tendencies.
“Some strengths are we are pretty well rounded,” Peterson said. “We have some pretty good linemen on both sides of the ball. Our skills guys are pretty good. We have some good special teams. We are kind of a young team so I think that’s a little bit of a weakness because we have some guys that haven’t had a ton of varsity experience, but every week we’ll get more used to playing at this speed.”.
DHS lost to Fenton 28-14 on August 29, lost to Heritage 28-27 on September 6, and beat Mount Pleasant, 28 -7. The further DHS gets into the season, the more experience DHS football players gain, and the team has gone from being solidly beaten, to losing by a point, to winning by a margin of 21 points.
“Fenton and Heritage is a tough start to the season and we came out strong against Mount Pleasant,” Tolles said. “I think we’re on the up from here.”
