The DECA State Career Development Conference (SCDC) has arrived for another year. From Thursday, Mar. 5 at 2 p.m., to Saturday Mar. 7, the 2020 conference will be held in downtown Detroit. Over 4,000 Michigan students, and 85 DHS students will be competing with each other as well as having the opportunity to meet various business professionals and representatives.
“Each DECA competition consists of an exam you take on paper and then also your role plays to the judge,” senior and club president Anish Middha said.
During the conference, DECA members will be able to vote and elect the State Executive Council for the 2020-2021 year. DHS students, Nicole Peters and Olivia Miller are both campaigning for a position on the Executive Council to replace the current Council that DHS student Karnika Chandra currently holds the Vice President of Leadership Development.
“It’s a great experience, I’m really excited for the chapter and everyone always loves it and so I’ve really enjoyed it the past two years and now this year there’s just something more to be excited about, so I’m really looking forward to it,” junior and club member Olivia Miller said.
The winners of the SCDC will head to the International Career Development Conference in Nashville, Tennessee from Apr. 28-May 3.
