Working as a cashier

Students have the opportunity to improve their customer service skills by working as a cashier. A variety of fields, such as retail and the food industry, have cashiers as the first face of the business that the customers see. Senior Rachel Chichester worked at Pizza Sams, but she says that being a cashier is more than just working behind the cash register.

“I did all the salad bar and ice cream prep,” Chichester said. “I then tended to any customers that come to the counter and prepared food for them. I also took take-out or delivery orders.”

Along with working on responsibilities and learning how to multitask, Chichester gained valuable communication skills.

“I learned how to work with different people,” Chichester said. “And how to work with customers and help them.”
