Despite trailing by four with only four minutes left in the game, senior Alec Marty led the DHS boys basketball team to a season opening 58-55 win over Flushing. Marty led all scorers with 27 points along with four steals to lead DHS to victory. Junior Devontae Stine had ten points and junior Mike Robb had six.
“Alec was great,” Robb said. “He took charge of the game and is a huge reason that the outcome was what it was.”
The DHS girls team didn’t have the same luck, falling 48-43 to Flushing. The team was leading at the half and throughout the game, but got outscored 18-11 in the fourth quarter to give Flushing the win.
“We just didn’t finish,” sophomore Nadia Atton said. “It’s a game we knew we could win and we let it get away from us.”
Even though the girls lost, both teams have a long season ahead of them.
