With the DECA team preparing for their district competition starting on Dec. 19, many students are excited to experience the district competition.
Returning member sophomore Varun Shanker now serves as the club co-president. Competing for the second time in Hotel, Lodging and Management after taking home third place at the National Tournament in that same category, Shanker looks forward to returning to the competition.
“The entire atmosphere of being able to enjoy the experience of your entire club is nice, and knowing that our club has grown this year, and gained a lot of new members,” Shanker said.
Sophomore Carolina Donoso is looking at a completely different goal of attending the district competition. As a new member of the DECA team this year, she’s hoping to gain exposure to the world of business around her in the spirit of competition.
“I’m looking forward to the competitive experience and the opportunity to be in a competition I’ve never been in and learn something new about it,” Donoso said.

“We had a record number of freshman this year, and I’m very happy with how they did,” staff member Melissa DeBoer said.
Over 50 members qualified for the state competition which takes place on Mar. 13.
