Season 17 of ABC’s The Bachelor ends

On Mar 11, 2013, ABC’s The Bachelor, season 17, announced the final couple. Sean Lowe, the very  bachelor proposed to Catherine Guidici, while sending a well-liked fan favorite, Lindsey Yenter, home.

“I thought [Catherine] was too smart for him,” English teacher Sarah Hechlick said. “But I hope it works out, I liked her.”

Guidici, a 26 year old graphic designer from Seattle, Washington, accepted Lowe’s proposal immediately, at the Final Rose ceremony in Thailand.

“It was a little ridiculous for them to go all the way to Thailand, and the proposal stage did not look that good,” junior Olivia Shelton said. “But at the same time, if that opportunity is there for traveling and doing whatever you want, then go for it.”

Shelton was rooting for Guidici for much of the season.

“They just seemed so much better suited for each other than all of the other contestants,” Shelton said. “Besides that, I didn’t like Lindsey that much.”

Hechlick agrees with Shelton’s sentiments.

“I liked Catherine,” Hechlick said. “She was quirky, smart, and real.”

However, not everyone agreed with Lowe’s pick initially.

“I was really mad at first, because I liked Lindsey a lot more,” senior Maria Ilundain said. “But at the ‘After The Final Rose’, they looked really happy and I think that they’re going to last.”

With season 17 of The Bachelor coming to a close, Desiree Hartstock was selected to be the next Bachelorette, for season 9. However, there is some concern for how Hartstock’s brother will act throughout the season. During The Bachelor, he disrupted Lowe’s and Hartstock’s romance by calling Lowe a “playboy”. This inevitably caused Lowe to send Hartstock home.

“I’m worried about her brother,” Hechlick said. “He was sketchy, and I think he might get in the way of her love again.”

Season 9 of The Bachelorette is set to air on ABC on Monday, May 20 at 9 p.m.
