Boys varsity swim dominates Tri City Championships

The DHS boys varsity swim team had a rousing victory Jan. 31 at the Tri-Cities Championships. The boys finished first with 710 points with Heritage High School finishing second, far behind them at 462 points. There were best times including MISCA and Division II (D2) state cuts. Senior captains Jackson Goethe and Ben Martin, senior Michael Pixton and freshman Nehemiah Mork continue to lead the team to victory with strong swims.

All three A relays placed first with state cuts. The 200 Medley Relay of freshman Nick Pixton, senior Connor Keilitz, Martin and Mork went a time of 1:42.15. The team of Goethe, sophomore Zach Hoffman, junior Rick Knoff and Michael swam a 1:30.21 in the 200 Free Relay. Finishing 13 seconds ahead of second place team John Glenn High School, the 400 Free Relay of Michael, Goethe, Mork and Martin went a 3:12.43.

The B relay of sophomore Alec Justin, senior Tommy Hall and freshman Kevin White and Thomas Bolland swam a MISCA cut time of 1:50.74 in the 200 Medley Relay and placed third. The 200 Free Relay B team of Keilitiz, sophomore Jeremy Wisler, freshman Ben Brandstadt and senior Robert Auger finished sixth in a time of 1:40.44. The 400 Free Relay team of junior Nick Smith, Knoff, Hoffman and White placed fourth with a time of 3:29.49.

First place finishers for the Chargers were Michael, Martin, Goethe and Mork with D2 state cuts. Michael won the 200 free and 500 free in 1:45.68 and 4:49.62, respectively. In the 200 IM, Martin went a 1:54.60 and 1:00.51 in the 100 breast. Goethe swam the 50 free in 21.85 and the 100 free in 47.88. Mork won the 100 fly and 100 back in 54.32 and 57.95, respectively.

Nick was the lone second place finisher for DHS in the 100 back with a D2 state qualifying time of 58.33. Knoff placed third in the 100 free in 51.40 and Hoffman also placed third in his event, the 200 IM, with a time of 2:07.23 (D2). Fourth place finishers were Smith in the 100 back and Keilitz in the 100 breast in 1:01.10 (MISCA) and 1:07.01 (MISCA), respectively. Knoff also placed fifth in the 200 free in a time of 1:51.85.

Sixth place finishers were Nick, White, Hall and Justin. Nick swam a 2:15.72 in the 200 IM, White went a 5:08.03 in the 500 free, Hall swam a 1:07.82 (MISCA) in the 100 breast and Justin swam a 1:02.14 in the 100 back. Keilitiz placed seventh in the 50 free with a time of 24.45 and Bolland placed seventh with a time of 1:01.62 in the 100 fly. Junior Nick Olen came in seventh with a time of 1:07.84 in the 100 breast. Hoffman also came in seventh in the 100 free in a time of 52.53.

Placing eighth in the 200 free, White swam a 1:54.26 (MISCA). Other eighth place finishers were junior Jared Justin in the 100 back in a time of 1:03.69, Brandstadt in the 100 breast in 1:09.50 and Hall swam a 2:18.23 in the 200 IM.

The boys’ season is half over and they have less than a month to the SVL Championships.
