Towering on chunky Jeffrey Campbell boots that would send most girls careening into lockers, senior Mary Claire Bassett breezes through the hallways with ease. Also commonly seen with a handmade knit scarf around her neck during the colder months, Bassett mixes cozy, casual pieces with styles likely to be seen on bloggers and style gurus swarming the streets during Fashion Week.
“I get my inspiration from certain fashion people on YouTube that I watch, and then whatever I see in store windows or on websites,” Bassett said.
Bassett cites stores with cheap deals like Forever 21 and Marshalls as favorites, especially for shoes. She also shops at Nordstrom and Urban Outfitters. When shopping for new clothes or shoes, Bassett varies her bud
get, opting for cheaper deals unless she finds something worth splurging on.
“It depends on if I want a lot of things, then I’ll get them cheaper but if it’s like something really nice and I’ll wear it a lot then I’ll get something more expensive,” Bassett said. “Usually shoes, fancy shoes, or probably dresses.”
What Bassett wears each day depends a lot on her mood and attitude.
“When I’m feeling energetic, I usually wear nicer clothes than when I’m feeling lazy,” Bassett said.
Mixing high end pieces with bargains from consignment shops, Bassett brings an eclectic style to the hallways of DHS embodying her quirky personality.
