On Jan 13, the annual Golden Globe Awards Celebration was held where films such as Les Miserables and Argo won various awards for quality filmmaking. This year’s hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler proved to be funny and entertaining, and managed to keep the ceremony alive as the Globes rolled out.
Argo, a drama set during the 1979 Iranian Hostage Crisis, won two different awards. Ben Affleck won Best Director for the film, and Argo also snatched up Best Drama. British musical Les Miserables also grabbed a handful of awards. Hugh Jackman won the award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, while Anne Hathaway snagged the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical or Comedy. Les Miserables also won a third award for Best Film Musical or Comedy, making the film have the highest number of Golden Globes this year.
Other notable films were Life of Pi, a drama film nominated for three different awards, winning the award for Best Original Score. Lincoln, a documentary telling of the struggles President Lincoln went through, was nominated for seven awards, winning Best Actor in a Drama which was given to Daniel Day-Lewis. The drama film Zero Dark Thirty was nominated for four awards, winning Best Actress, the award given to Jessica Chastain, and Django Unchained was nominated for another three awards, winning Best Screenplay.
The winners and losers can give some insight for the upcoming Oscars Awards Ceremony, which will be held on Sunday, Feb 24. What impact will the winners and losers of the Golden Globe Awards have on the Oscars? Les Miserables will likely pick up at least one more award during the ceremony after having two of its actors claim awards last Monday. Other notable films that will be seen in this year’s Oscars Ceremony are Amour, Django Unchained, Silver Linings Playbook, Lincoln, and Argo, all of which have several award nominations and have all been nominated for the Best Picture Award.
Likely, many of the same Oscar awards will go out to the same films and actors as in the Golden Globe awards, but a lot of the outcomes could be different this coming February. Films like Les Miserables could go down in flames next month, where other films and actors who didn’t receive anything at the Golden Globes could have a surprising turn around. On Feb 24, anything could happen at the Oscars Awards Ceremony.
