The DHS Varsity Football Team played their first home game of the season on Friday, Sept. 6, losing to the Lapeer Lightning by the score of 6-43.
Senior Garrett Daniels scored the first, and only, touchdown of the game. When Daniels had a moment to think about the game and the future of his senior season, he is most excited to “make memories with my teammates and having fun,” Daniels said in a text interview. While Daniels hsa been on varsity for two years, this was sophomore Daniel Watkins’ first home varsity game.
“Stepping out onto that field at home is something special, you don’t realize watching it how crazy it is to be out there with the band playing and the student section going wild, its exhilarating,” Watkins said in a text message.
Even though the Chargers had some setbacks during the game, that didn’t kill school spirit in the student section. Junior Alvin López got thrown up in the air by the cheer team and led the student section in a chant for the Chargers. Many of the seniors cheered as they sat on the wall with their classmates standing behind them. Along with the students that came out to support their school, the band, pom, and cheer team all kept the spirit up from the beginning of the game to the end. The Charger’s next game will be Friday, Sept. 13th at home against Bay City Central.
