Varsity baseball looks ahead to spring season

As high school baseball season begins once more, the varsity baseball team looks to bounce back from a disappointing district loss last year to Bay City Central in the first round of the playoffs. The team lost many big-name and big-talent players from the 2014 senior class with the likes of Alex Sova, Evan Marquardt, Jackson Worsley, Robert Ellbracht, and Adam Fitzgibbon. All of them went on to play baseball at the collegiate level, as well as Alec Justin who transferred to powerhouse Bay City Western for his senior year. Along with having new blood in the lineup this year the Chargers are also under new leadership with first-year head coach Pat Cushman.

“We really have some gaps to fill this year with the amount of talent that we lost last year,” senior Connor Doyle said. “However, I like the group of guys we have this year, and although we might not be the best in the valley our goal is to go out there and compete with the very best teams in the state.”
