Charger Soccer Dominates Heritage in First District Game

The boys varsity soccer team won its district opener Monday evening at home against Heritage. The boys worked together well and stayed well ahead of the Hawks throughout the game, with DHS up 5-1 at halftime.

“We played well the whole game and that’s reflected by the score,” senior Arturo Cuellar said.

Dow defeated the Hawks with a final score of 8-2. Leading the game in goals was senior Brandon Derstine with four goals. Other scorers include senior Nick Coon with two goals, and juniors Michael Dean and Joshua Stauffer with one goal each.

“We had a couple unfortunate goals scored on us, but overall we destroyed them,” said Cuellar. “It felt really, really good because they knocked us out of districts last year.”

The boys move on to compete in their next district game Oct. 14 at Midland Stadium at 5:00 pm. For more information on DHS Soccer, visit http://dowathletics.com/boys_soccer.
