The DHS Boys Hockey Team is enjoying a very successful season so far, being ranked fifth in Division II, as they sit at 11-1-1. On Wednesday, Jan. 14, the team tied SVL rival Saginaw Heritage 3-3, who they likely see in the playoffs. The team had a shot advantage at 37-29 over the visiting Heritage. Goals for the Chargers were scored by seniors Steven Roberts and Sam Brushaber and junior Brett Brillhart. In net for DHS was senior Derek Striker, who had 26 saves on 29 shots for the night.
Previously, the only Charger loss came against the Bay City Wolves 6-1 who are currently in first place in the SVL. In order to catch the Wolves, DHS needs to make up the ground lost by beating Bay City. They still have two meetings left on the season, on Jan. 22 and Feb. 5.
Tonight, the team faces cross-town rival MHS, who currently is 2-9-0 on the season. MHS is struggling this season, and the Chargers will look to beat the team handedly. The Chargers still have 12 games left on the season and are looking to continue the success of the first half of the season. With the majority of the team being seniors, DHS will look to make a deep run in the playoffs relying on their vast experience and talent.
