Freshman football falls to Oilers

The DHS freshman football team lost to the Mt. Pleasant Oilers 49-14 on Sept. 12, 2024. All of DHS’s points were acquired in the last quarter by two touchdowns and a two-point conversion.

In the second quarter, starting quarterback, Deegan Brandle, was injured and checked out by medics. He returned to the game after halftime.

The Chargers expressed frustration with the loss, but were overall proud of themselves and the team. Freshman JD Doughty discussed how it felt to be coming back but too late.

“It felt great even though we were not going to win,”  Doughty said.

Freshman Ethan Weckesser felt the team played well, despite the loss.

“We played ok,” Weckesser said. “I was on the offense, well on the defense now, and I tackled a kid. My dad was proud of me on that.”

The freshman team next faces off against Bay City Western on Sept. 20, 2024. They will go into this away game with a record of 1-2.
