These items were available to bid on at the Kids Against Hunger silent auction on Feb. 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Student Leadership has executed yet another successful Kids Against Hunger fundraiser. Throughout February and March, there were multiple opportunities for people in the community to assemble and help put an end to world hunger.<\/p>\n<p>On Feb. 11 and 12, students could donate their spare dollar bills at lunch in order to receive a piece of duct tape. Those pieces of tape were then used by students\u00a0to successfully tape teachers against the DHS cafeteria wall. A total of $153 was raised between Feb. 11 and 12.<\/p>\n<p>Then, on Feb. 26, students and parents could buy tickets for $5 and $6 for the Kids Against Hunger spaghetti dinner.\u00a0 While there, the person could decide to participate in a silent auction. Items that were available to buy ranged from a griddle\u00a0to a coupon to Athletic Republic. A little under $1,400 was raised on Feb. 26 between the spaghetti dinner and the silent auction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We sold almost everything from our silent auction,&#8221; senior Lauren Dimerc said.\u00a0&#8220;We were very happy with the turnout. I would say this was definitively a successful dinner!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Mar. 14 from 9\u00a0a.m. to 12\u00a0p.m., high school students\u00a0volunteered to package instant meals at Central Middle School for those less fortunate. Usually, tens of thousands of instant meals are packaged every year in the three hour time frame.<\/p>\n<p>Many other fundraisers were done at specific events such as a Crock Staff Luncheon, a DHS vs MHS half time collection, and a Dollar Day at DHS. These events accumulated an additional $1,200.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, the fundraiser raised almost $3,000, not to mention the amount of lives touched through the distribution of the tens of thousands of instant meals that were packaged.\u00a0 The money will go directly to the Kids Against Hunger organization where they will divide it up and send it where it needs to go the most.\u00a0A third of the funds go to food pantries right here in Michigan.
