The NHS members collaborated with workers from the <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">MidMichigan<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Blood<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Center<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> along with supervision from English teacher and NHS adviser Andy Frye. The drive took place in the Green Gym throughout the\u00a0school day on Feb. 27 after being rescheduled from Feb. 19 due to a cold day. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"line-height: 150%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cWe have four [blood drives]\u00a0per year, all 56 days apart so that the people can recover,\u201d senior Amy Sklenar said. \u201cThe next one will take place April 30.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"line-height: 150%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After being collected, the blood is distributed to miscellaneous hospitals; one out of seven patients in a hospital need the blood. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"line-height: 150%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cOut of the people who actually could donate, most of them did,\u201d Sklenar said. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"line-height: 150%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sklenar also noted that the number of people who were able to donate was lower than in previous years, leaving the total amount of donators lower.\u00a0Eighty-five people signed up to donate, but only 66 of them were able to complete the task. After donating, donors received candy, cookies, and were entered in a drawing for Saginaw Spirit tickets. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"line-height: 150%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cWe actually only had one person pass out this time,&#8221; Sklenar said. &#8220;Usually we have four to five people.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"line-height: 150%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Although not as successful as in the past, 66 units (pints) of blood were collected from this blood drive. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"line-height: 150%; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">By Lindsay Trahan<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, DHS National Honors Society members helped to put on another successful blood drive.
