As the calendar turns to May, it has made many seniors realize that they are nearly a month away from graduating high school and a few months away from being freshman in college. The opportunity and experiences to be freshmen in college has many current DHS seniors very excited for a variety of reasons.<\/p>\n
One thing that has many seniors excited about college is the chance to be living independently from their parents or legal guardian. For the first 18 years of their life many students have lived with either a parent or a legal guardian. However, when students go to college most of them no longer live with the parents or guardian and instead live with one to three of their fellow classmates in a dorm room on campus. This opportunity makes many students very eager.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited to leave home next year and not have to live with my parents but instead live with a bunch of kids my own age,\u201d senior Blair Subbaraman said.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not just the freedom of living by themselves that has some seniors ecstatic for college; many seniors are also excited for the opportunity to play intramural sports. Intramural sports are a program that many colleges offer students as a way to play sports with their fellow classmates. In other words its basically Recreational Sports at the college level. Many colleges offer a variety of different intramural sports such as basketball, volleyball, baseball, football and many more. Some students will assemble an intramural team with friends or classmates from college. The opportunity to play intramural sport has many students excited for college.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to be awesome to play intramural sports at college,\u201d Subbaraman said. \u201cYou get to make a team with people who you like and you get to play a sport that you all enjoy in a non-serious environment.”<\/p>\n
While students are excited for the chance to play intramural sports they are also excited for the opportunity to watch their fellow students play sports at the college level. Many freshmen students attend a variety of different school affiliated sporting events such as football, basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis, etc. Not only do the students get to watch these events in person they also have the chance to sit in the student sections at many of these events. In the student sections the students are surrounded by their fellow students and they often cheer the team on in an organized and rowdy manner.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited to go and watch the football and basketball games and the fact that we get to be a part of the student sections that we see on television,\u201d senior Kevin Scott said.<\/p>\n
Many seniors are also pumped for the new classes they can take in college and the schedule flexibility that comes along with it. Even though it is their freshman year and they are forced to take some general education courses, college students still get an opportunity to pick classes in subjects that interest them. Also, some of these classes allow students to design their schedule they want to. In other words, some have the opportunity to pick what day they want their classes and, for that matter, what time as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cI might not have to be in a classroom before 10 a.m. so I\u2019m pretty excited about that,” Scott said. \u201cI also might be able to make it so I don\u2019t have classes on Mondays or Fridays so I\u2019m pumped to have to maybe be able to have the chance at adding an extra day to my weekend.”<\/p>\n
Another aspect of college that thrills many seniors is the college cafeterias on campus. Most colleges have designed cafeterias that allow students to have a lot of say in what time they eat and most importantly what they eat. Some college campuses cafeterias are open for a majority of the day which allows students to eat whenever the mood strikes them. Also a lot of cafeterias have a lot of different variety of foods such as Pizza, Mexican, Italian, a Salad bar and even a special of the day.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve ate on some college campuses and the food is pretty good so I\u2019m pretty jacked that I get to choose what I want to eat and what time I want to eat it,\u201d senior Mark Debney said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
