It’s hard to beat a team three times in one season. That’s the saying that the boys varsity basketball team was hoping would prove to be true on Monday night, but the Hawks of Heritage were too much for the young Chargers.<\/p>\n

The Chargers got down in the first half and never recovered, struggling to stop the Hawks ability to drive the lane.<\/p>\n

Junior Brandon Bowser was pleased with his team\u2019s efforts. He led the Chargers with 16 points followed by 11 from junior Sean Cushman.<\/p>\n

“We knew coming into this game that we had a chance to win, but we just didn’t execute,” Bowser said. “Turnovers were a problem for us throughout the game and Heritage took advantage of fast break opportunities which made it hard to catch up.”<\/p>\n

The Hawks went on a 12-6 run in the third period expanding the lead. But the Chargers never gave up, fighting until the last buzzer and coming within four points in the final period. Their efforts weren’t enough to pull through as they ended up losing 62-52, finishing the season with a record of 4-17. P.J. Walker led the Hawks with 17 points followed by 10 from Deandre Vale.<\/p>\n

Bowser said that the outcome of their games doesn’t necessarily reflect the season as a whole.<\/p>\n

“Although we were down most of the game tonight, it’s fun to be a part of a team that really wants to win,” Bowser said. “We didn’t win a lot of games [this year] but I felt like we proved we could compete with almost every team in the Valley.”<\/p>\n

The player’s drive to win could play a big role in the team’s season next year as the Chargers are only graduating four seniors.<\/p>\n

“I definitely have high hopes for next year,” Bowser said. “We came into the season inexperienced but progressed throughout. I know my teammates and myself will all train hard in the offseason and come back next year with the confidence and skills we need to win more games.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
