Powderpuff is a chance for the girls to get in on the football action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a Facebook group and we\u2019ve had a couple meetings where girls went and signed up to play,\u201d senior Taylor Mckay said.<\/p>\n<p>Mckay plays cornerback and wide receiver, and is optimistic about their upcoming game against Midland High School.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we will beat Midland,\u201d McKay said.<\/p>\n<p>Although powderpuff is usually a touch football sport, the intense rivalry between MHS and DHS has morphed it into a more violent activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe tackle, but there\u2019s no pads,\u201d senior Sky Morgan said. \u201cThey suggest getting mouthguards because people get hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The varsity football team coaches the girls. Senior football player Matt Malesky is one of the defensive line coaches this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe run through different movements and techniques,\u201d Malesky said. \u201cWe also do tackling drills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mckay believes that having the varsity boys there to help has made a huge difference in their playing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe boys split up and teach us based on our positions,\u201d Mckay said.<\/p>\n<p>Powderpuff has practices twice a week, but most of the girls see it as a fun after school activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like it, I think some girls take it really seriously but it\u2019s just supposed to be for fun,\u201d Mckay said.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan is glad she joined powderpuff and hopes that the game will be as fun as the practices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fun,\u201d Morgan said. \u201cI guess I\u2019ll find out Saturday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DHS powderpuff team takes on the MHS at the Tridge Sunday, Oct. 27, at 2:00 p.m. The team believes it has the win, and looks forward to playing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got this,\u201d Malesky said. \u201cWe are looking pretty solid this year.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Each year, senior girls at DHS have an opportunity to play powderpuff.
