The weekend of President\u2019s Day, a member of the Charger family was lost.<\/p>\n

Herbert the library hamster, or Herbie for short, died peacefully in his sleep. He was survived by his surrogate mother and primary caregiver, media center paraprofessional Stacey Latowksi.<\/p>\n

\u201cHerbie was like a year and a half old, that\u2019s about the average for hamsters,\u201d Latowksi said. \u201cHe was a nice little Syrian Fancy hamster.\u201d<\/p>\n

Students could spend time with Herbie in the library or they could check him out during the hour to bring him back to their classes.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was such a cute little bugger, such a good snuggler,\u201d senior Brooke Ehrlich said. \u201cHe always got stuck in his little hamster ball, he didn\u2019t want to come out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Latowski purchased Herbie at Soldans, where she also works, in Sep. 2011.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a good pet,\u201d Latowski said. \u201cI thought he\u2019d be here a couple years, he made it through two Christmases here. Herbie liked everyone, except he would pee on you sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Herbie died a happy hamster.<\/p>\n

\u201cHerbie was cool with his freaked-out hair,\u201d Latowski said. \u201cHe died peacefully in his favorite place, in bed.\u201d<\/p>\n
