Over the weekend of Feb. 22, Science Olympiad competed against Great Lakes Bay Region schools in the regional competition. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEach person is assigned to different events,\u201d senior Sean Anderson said. \u201cSo, the things that people have to do to prepare are radically different from person to person.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Some events that students can compete in include breaking codes and human anatomy. They are either individual or partner events. Anderson is in the Sound of Music event, along with his partner. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy partner and I have to create an instrument,\u201d Anderson said. \u201cThe instrument can play three octaves and \u2018Twinkle Twinkle Little Star\u2019. And we get bonus points for having extra notes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Although there are guidelines for each event, there is room for creativity.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey provide an excerpt that can be in a different key,\u201d Anderson said. \u201cBut they all have to play \u2018Twinkle Twinkle Little Star\u2019.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Out of 13 schools, DHS Science Olympiad placed third overall. They are now preparing for the state competition in April.
