Members of the Chemistry Club met in chemistry teacher Adam Colvin\u2019s room to make chemistry ornaments and to enjoy the company of people with similar interests. To make the ornaments, the members first made a shape or design out of a pipe cleaner.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe borax ornaments, is what we call supersaturated solution,\u201d Colvin said. \u201cWe heat up the water and dissolve, a whole bunch of it (the borax). And then when you evaporate the water the borax has to go somewhere and it attaches the only thing that it can. In this case it’s going to be a little pipe cleaner, so it’s going to attach on them kind of crystallized snow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Chemistry club has many more experiments planned for upcoming meetings.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe like to have a good time,\u201d Colvin said. \u201cSometimes we have food, people can come for the food. I don\u2019t know, we will do more fun stuff later like we’ll have liquid nitrogen day, that’s that’s everyone’s favorite day of the year. I don’t know what else we’re going to do, maybe tie dye shirts one day.
