Jack Wilson, a driving instructor, is famous for his stories, badges, and his mustache. He makes fun of people who get red faces easily and he looks joyfully at the idiocy of people on the road, in his class, and in life, all with a Santa laugh and an only semi-serious exterior.<\/p>\n
When asked what they liked the most about Wilson, all three interviewees said the same thing: his mustache.<\/p>\n
\u201cI couldn\u2019t take him seriously,\u201d sophomore Charlie Power said. \u201cI kept thinking of the Lorax whenever I saw him!\u201d<\/p>\n
Sophomore Adrienne Ora had cartoon characters in her mind when she saw Wilson’s\u00a0facial hair as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought he looked like the one guy from Tarzan,\u201d Ora\u00a0said. \u201cLike the dad. When he, like, wore shorts, he looked like him.\u201d<\/p>\n
All interviewees agreed in the opinion that he is a good teacher.\u00a0\u201cHe\u2019s really good, he explains everything a lot,\u201d Freshman Paige Gilstad said. \u201cAnd he includes stories that are really funny, so it\u2019s not as boring.\u201d<\/p>\n
Power has a slightly different point of view.\u00a0\u201cHe didn\u2019t mind me doodling in class, as long as I paid attention,\u201d Power said.<\/p>\n
However, despite this, he can make people nervous.\u00a0\u201cHe kind of scared me in the car,\u201d Power said. \u201cHe kept grabbing the steering wheel. Other than that, he was fine.”<\/p>\n
Wilson’s\u00a0stories are the highlight of many driving classes. Among his favorites is about a bad driver.\u00a0\u201cWe almost rolled the car on the expressway,\u201d Wilson\u00a0said. \u201cThe girl, we were getting on the expressway, and she jerked the wheel two lanes, and I swear, the car was up on two wheels. We probably weren’t, but that’s what it felt like.\u201d<\/p>\n
His students have favorite stories, too.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey had this designated drunk that would like, when they were all drinking, they would go out and get pulled over by the cops so that all the other drunk people could go the other way,\u201d said Gilstad.<\/p>\n
Power has another story in mind.\u00a0\u201cI like the one where the guy doesn\u2019t use the brake right and goes straight through his garage,\u201d she says. \u201cInstead of the brakes, nowadays, where you like, slow down, but the wheels still keep turning\u2026[in the past], you would slam on the brakes and the wheels would stop and you would skid\u2026this guy, his friend didn\u2019t realize it, and went straight through the garage. He didn\u2019t brake soon enough.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ora\u2019s favorite story, however, isn\u2019t exactly a story, but instead a series of events in different times.\u00a0\u201cI like when he\u2019s talking about all the stuff he sees people doing while they drive,\u201d she says before recalling one instance. \u201cLike some guy brushing his teeth or something. How do you get to a point on your life where you\u2019re like \u2018you know what I need to do while I\u2019m driving? Brush my teeth.\u2019 Take the two minutes!\u201d<\/p>\n
Wilson\u00a0is also famous for his teasing, especially people who blush easily. However, people who get red-faced are not his only targets.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe calls me \u2018Blondie’,\u201d Gilstad said. \u201cAnd I fell backwards in my chair. I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll bring that up a lot. Let\u2019s hope that was a one-time thing.\u201d She also points out another student Jack makes fun of. \u201cHolly. He calls her \u2018Lobster-fest\u2019 cause she got sunburned.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked about favorites, Jack doesn\u2019t try to cover up that he has them.\u00a0\u201cThe people that I pick on the most are usually my favorites,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Jack\u2019s badges are also quite famous. Among his favorites is the Jesus Take the Wheel badge, which is the highest badge a student can get. He has only given out about three of these.<\/p>\n
One student is very memorable to Jack, the same girl in his favorite story.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe one girl that failed this class didn\u2019t know, after class, what side of the road to drive on,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery time she drove, she would drive on the wrong side.\u201d The girl, who will remain unnamed, received a Jesus Take the Wheel badge. Wilson\u00a0also makes sure to point out how she wasn\u2019t disabled, she was just stupid.<\/p>\n
