They have done this each day since the beginning of the school year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When the bell rings at the end of second hour, the students at Dow High know what&#8217;s coming up:\u00a0 the daily announcements, delivered by seniors Minhyo Kang and Jack Yarosh, as well as junior Ben Price. \u00a0Before they&#8217;re given the news at Dow High for the day, students get to walk to their third hour while listening to the music chosen for the day.<\/p>\n<p>To some, the announcements are just\u00a0a few people reading off of a script. \u00a0However, according to Kang, there are more rules that go in to it than some may think.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The announcements are pretty strict,&#8221; Kang said. &#8220;We&#8217;re not supposed to laugh,\u00a0which we have done, several times, we have a strict script that we must follow, and for me, since I choose the music, the music cannot have swear words, be sexually suggestive, or be negative in any manner,\u00a0which I have definitely done before.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When they do break one of the rules, it does not go without penalty.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These flubs don&#8217;t come without consequences &#8211; we&#8217;ve been reprimanded each time,&#8221; Kang\u00a0added.<\/p>\n<p>However, the announcements aren&#8217;t only defined by their strict rules; there are funny moments, as well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were about to finish when Mrs. Bushey walked in with a piece of paper,&#8221; Kang said. &#8220;She had scribbled a few names of debaters but I couldn&#8217;t read any of the names.\u00a0 So I&#8217;m standing there with complete silence over the intercom, and everybody starts laughing.\u00a0 In the end, we had to cut the announcements early because it was just so utterly embarrassing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As for the people running for the team next year, Kang gave simple advice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Just have fun with it,&#8221; Kang said. &#8220;It helped me realize that everybody makes mistakes, but the key is to laugh and move on.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>By: Eisha Hassan<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When the bell rings at the end of second hour, the students at Dow High know what&#8217;s coming up:\u00a0 the daily announcements, delivered by seniors Minhyo Kang and Jack Yarosh, as well as junior Ben Price. \u00a0Before they&#8217;re given the news at Dow High for the day, students get to walk to their third hour [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1295,"featured_media":10876,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[1737,1339,1740,1736,1738,1739],"class_list":["post-10802","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-3feature","tag-announcements","tag-beats","tag-ben-price","tag-eisha-hassan","tag-jack-yarosh","tag-minhy-kang"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
